At the Buddha Meditation Center of Greater Washington DC, our mission is clear: to cultivate mindfulness, inner peace, and unity among individuals of all backgrounds through a variety of meditation programs. For over a decade, we have dedicated ourselves to offering accessible and transformative experiences that promote well-being and understanding. Let's delve into the array of programs that make our center a hub of mindfulness and community.
1. Sunday Meditation Program at Buddha Meditation Center
Every Sunday, our virtual doors open to all, regardless of faith. From 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, participants embark on a journey of mindfulness and self-discovery. The session commences with a silent meditation, followed by loving-kindness and breathing meditations. Our commitment to accessibility is evident as the program is offered free of charge.
2. Weekly Mindfulness Program at Sandy Spring Museum
Designed exclusively for non-Buddhists, this program runs weekly at Sandy Spring Museum. Guided by experienced instructors, participants engage in activities focused on present-moment awareness, loving-kindness, and letting go. These sessions equip attendees with tools to navigate life's challenges and cultivate well-being.
3. Online Meditation Sessions
Bringing mindfulness to a diverse audience, our online sessions occur every Thursday from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Around 50% of participants hail from different faith backgrounds or identify as non-believers. These sessions include mindfulness-based meditation and engaging discussions that foster a sense of community and understanding.
4. Day-long Meditation Program
Taking place on the third Saturday of each month, our day-long program offers a comprehensive experience. Mindfulness meditation, letting go practices, loving-kindness meditation, and breathing exercises fill the day. Immersed in serene surroundings, participants engage in mindfulness walking practices.
5. Two-day Meditation Program - Retreat Center
With a focus on deep meditation practices, this two-day program is attended by both Buddhists and non-Buddhists. Accommodations are covered by participants, while teachings and meals are provided freely, making the program an enriching experience accessible to all.
6. Invited Meditation Programs
Our collaboration with educational institutions tailors mindfulness meditation classes to diverse age groups. With an emphasis on interactive sessions and guided meditations, these programs positively impact students' focus, emotional regulation, and overall well-being.
7. Children's Mindfulness Program
Nurturing qualities like gratitude and resilience, this program provides children with tools to navigate challenges while embracing cultural diversity. Through alternate Saturday sessions, children gain emotional intelligence and a sense of interfaith acceptance.
8. Alms Giving Program
This daily program involves participants, including non-Buddhists, in the cultural practice of offering alms to monks. Following this, a brief teaching and blessing session led by Buddhist monks fosters community and interconnectedness.
9. Evening Chanting
Open to Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike, evening chantings offer a calming and reflective space to end the day. Attendees experience improved focus, relaxation, and a sense of spiritual connection.
10. Sinhala Language Programs
Meeting the needs of the Sri Lankan American community, our monthly Sinhala language programs merge cultural preservation with mindfulness. Participants immerse themselves in language and mindfulness, reconnecting with their heritage.
11. Online Meditation (Sinhala)
Every Wednesday at 8:00 PM, we extend our offerings to the Sinhala-speaking community through online meditation sessions. This initiative reinforces cultural bonds and mindfulness practice.
